Artist Bio

Designing and building spacecraft has always been my dream. In addition to the rigorous math and programming, the engineering process requires creativity. Throughout my time at CU Boulder, I have sketched countless diagrams and models as part of the coursework. My exposure to digital art is very limited. Other than Microsoft Paint, my only experience with digital art programs is with Photoshop, where I combined a few stills for a film photography course in high school. Not surprisingly, my artistic skills as a non-art major are lacking.

My interest in digital art stems from a love of video games and film. I appreciate the ability to build a world from scratch. CG models and simulations provide a foundation for these detailed environments. There is a certain level of artistic proficiency necessary to blend these visual and special effects, and the ‘magic’ behind these video games and movies is a skilled digital artist. In my opinion, the epic, awe-inspiring landscapes of Horizon Zero Dawn, Last of Us, Interstellar, Inception, Blade Runner, and more are a testament to the ability of digital art to elicit emotions and resonate with the same intensity as the proverbial classics.

I draw a lot of inspiration from the intersection of science fiction and nature. Both the transformation and urbanization of the natural world and the reclamation of the developed world provide an interesting perspective toward the constantly evolving environments we live in. One of my favorite 'galleries' or collections of digital art is the Imaginary Landscapes subreddit. I am consistently amazed by the incredibly diverse, technically brilliant pieces of art being shared. One day, I hope to be able to create the type of art that I admire today. Digital art comes with its own challenges and its own freedoms. I am excited to continue my exploration into this medium.
